Russian Absurd: Alex Cigale’s Translations of Daniil Kharms’ Selected Writings (Northwestern University Press)
Join NEA Fellow in Literary Translation Alex Cigale as he reads excerpts from his 2017 book, Russian Absurd: Selected Writings. Kharms, beloved writer of children’s and adult fairy tales, is known in the West as an Absurdist. By restoring the chronology of his writings and presenting materials from his diaries and letters, to trace the events of Khams’s life and his development as a writer, Cigale’s book presents a new picture of Kharms as an existentialist writer whose work remains highly relevant for our own day and place.
Followed by a wine and cheese reception.
Don’t miss this chance to hear one of the most talented English translators reading some of Daniil Kharms’s most engaging work in Russian and English.
