Stories Survive Speaker Series: Frances Malkin

Организатор:
Museum of Jewish Heritage

The Museum’s monthly Stories Survive Speaker Series enables Holocaust survivors to share their life stories in their own words.

On April 15, Frances Malkin will share her history.

Fran Malkin was born in Sokal, Poland in 1938. By 1939, their town was occupied under Communist Russia.

When Germany invaded Poland in 1941, all Jewish able-bodied men were required to report to the town square for labor, including her father. The men were taken to a brick factory and shot. In the fall of 1942, the family went into hiding and were among sixteen other people hidden for two years in the hayloft of a barn by Francisca Halamajowa.

In January 1949, when she was 10 years old, Fran made her way west to the US. In 2007, she returned to Sokal (now Ukraine) along with Francisca’s two granddaughters, two other survivors, and filmmaker Judy Maltz, who created «No. 4 Street of Our Lady,» a film capturing their experiences based on memories and her uncle’s diary.

This program is free with Museum admission.
